Poland’s Swiderski secures 1-0 win over Albania in Euro qualifier

Warsaw, March 28 (BNA): Poland striker Karol Swiderski’s goal just before halftime secured a 1-0 victory over Albania to claim its first points in Group E of the Euro 2024 qualifiers on Monday.

Poland, who lost 3-1 to the Czech Republic in their opening match on Friday, sealed victory in the 41st minute through Swiderski who curled a shot into the net after Jakub Kaminski had hit the post with a free kick.

Reuters reports that Robert Lewandowski, fine from the Albania defence, had a chance to double their lead in the 63rd minute when he broke loose and fired from close range but his shot was wide.

The Polish striker had another chance in the 84th minute but his shot went over the bar from distance.

Albanian winger Myrto Uzuni sent chills up the spine in the crowd as he came close to equalizing with two minutes left, firing a shot wide of the left post.

In the other Group E match, the Czech Republic drew 0-0 away with Moldova to remain top of the standings, a point behind Poland.
