Poems in Little Desires recount family, love, childhood memories

Leiden, Sept. 28 (U.S.): She started with her collection of poems “Things That Serve a Cause” in 2011.

In 2014, Ranawa Al-Omsi’s debut novel, The Visit, was published after her participation in the 2013 Najwa Barakat Professional Writing Competition. The Visit was included in the top ten shortlist of 200 novels that competed.

Ten years after her literary debut, the Bahraini poet, novelist and cultural reporter published her second poetry collection, Small Desires.

The twenty-four poems in the anthology recount memories of love, family, childhood, and travel. The themes are subtly connected with an emotional thread and reinforced by the poet’s mood.

Ranawa has been very active in both youth and cultural fields, building on her academic background and fine arts to promote cultural exchange as great steps towards greater passion and humanity around the world.

She also designed and conducted many cultural events and activities and participated in many fine art exhibitions.

Ranawa has contributed numerous articles to magazines, print and electronic newspapers, and participated in forums that brought together literary figures from diverse backgrounds.
She is currently working on a master’s degree in Middle Eastern Studies at Leiden University in the Netherlands.

In parallel, she has been preparing cultural programs at Stichting Perdu in Amsterdam since 2020.
