Pereiro rescues Cagliari in 2-1 win over Bologna in Seria A

Cagliari, Italy Jan 12 (BNA): Substitute Gaston Pereiro made one goal and scored the winner in injury time as relegation-threatened Cagliari came back from behind to beat Bologna 2-1 in Serie A on Tuesday.

Leonardo Pavoletti canceled Riccardo Orsolini’s opening match in the second half in favor of Bologna. Both sides also hit the woodwork, the Associated Press reports.

It was the second game in a row that Cagliari trailed by two goals to win 2-1, having done the same at Sampdoria last week.

Cagliari moved inside to a safe point, despite having played a game more than 17th-placed Venice. Bologna remained in twelfth place.

Both teams had different goals and it was an active game from the start in Sardinia. The hosts almost took the lead in the 14th minute, but Raul Bellanova’s shot hit the right base.

Bologna took the lead early in the second half when Orsolini hit a free kick at the top near the corner.

But Cagliari tied at 71. A throw-in was only half cleared and Pereiro passed it back to Pavoletti to hit the ball in the tie.

Bologna regained their lead almost immediately but goalkeeper Alessio Cragno managed to push Orsolini’s effort off the left post and exit.

Instead, it was Cagliari who scored the winning goal in the fourth minute of stoppage time when Pereiro ran a through pass from Joao Pedro and smashed it into the corner near the bottom.
