Pefok fires Union Berlin back to on top of the Bundesliga

BERLIN, Feb. 4 (BNA): American striker Jordan Bivoce scored late on as Union Berlin shot to the top of the Bundesliga with a 2-1 win over Mainz on Saturday.


Bivok came on as a substitute for opening scorer Kevin Berens in the 79th minute. Five minutes later, he scored the winning goal as Union won by two points from Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund. It was Pefok’s first goal since September.


Dortmund defeated 10-man Freiburg 5-1 to move into third place behind Bayern on goal difference, reports the Associated Press.


Bayern Munich visit Wolfsburg on Sunday when the 10-time champions can regain first place.


Also, Eintracht Frankfurt defeated Hertha Berlin 3-0, Cologne drew 0-0 with Leipzig, and Bochum defeated Hoffenheim 5-2. Borussia Monchengladbach hosted Schalke late.
