Pakistan army helicopter crashes in southwest; 6 killed

Quetta, Sept. 26 (BNA): A Pakistan Army helicopter crashed during a night mission in the southwest of the country, killing all six military personnel on board, including the two pilots, the army said.

The accident took place in the Hernai district, about 150 km north of Quetta, the capital of Balochistan province.

It was not immediately clear what the helicopter’s mission was, and the military did not provide further details. The Associated Press reported that local authorities said an investigation was underway.

The latest incident comes weeks after a helicopter carrying a provincial commander and five other soldiers crashed in Balochistan during a flood-related operation due to a technical defect, killing all on board.

Since mid-June, when unprecedented torrential rains and floods hit Pakistan, the military has been involved in relief and rescue efforts across the country struggling with the deluge that has killed more than 1,600 people.
