Oil Minister opens Pre-COP 27 workshop

Manama, September 11 (BNA) The Minister of Oil and Environment and Special Envoy for Climate Affairs, Dr. Muhammad bin Mubarak bin Dina, affirmed that the Kingdom of Bahrain attaches great importance to the environment sector, thanks to the continuous support of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa. Isa Al Khalifa and the continuous follow-up of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister.

He indicated that the Kingdom will continue to launch policies to protect and sustain environmental and natural resources, as well as support concerted international efforts to confront various climate phenomena and environmental changes to achieve sustainable development goals.

This came in the minister’s statements during the opening session of the preparatory workshop organized by the Supreme Council for the Environment in cooperation with a number of supporting authorities, with the aim of raising the readiness of the Kingdom’s delegation for the 27th session of the Conference of Countries. Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP 27), scheduled to take place in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt, in November.

Dr. Bin Dina referred to the directives of the Personal Representative of His Majesty the King and Chairman of the Supreme Council for the Environment, His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Hamad Al Khalifa, regarding the importance of continuing efforts to fulfill the Kingdom’s obligations. Related to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, and the development of programs and plans to protect the environment in various sectors, for the benefit of the country and citizens.

The minister emphasized that the two-day workshop aims to prepare national competencies and ensure their effective participation in COP 27.

He affirmed Bahrain’s keenness to unify international efforts aimed at confronting climate change and adapting to its effects, which is reflected in its effective role and participation in various international forums related to the environment, especially its endeavors to implement the provisions of the Paris Climate Agreement.

He added that the delegation participating in the twenty-seventh session of the Conference of the Parties will brief other delegations on the Kingdom’s key role in promoting international environmental cooperation, as well as highlighting its efforts to reduce emissions and adapt to the effects of climate change, through legal legislation and climate initiatives. And the national projects adopted by the Kingdom within the Bahrain Economic Vision 2030.

The preparatory workshop for COP 27, which brings together experts and specialists in climate, environment and renewable energy, includes lectures and discussion sessions focusing on climate change, Bahrain’s position on the issue of climate change, and the most important achievements of the Kingdom in the region. The field of climate change mitigation and adaptation. It will also review Bahrain’s efforts to preserve the environment and climate in order to achieve sustainable development goals.
