OIC calls on international community to support the Rohingya people

Jeddah, August 25 (BNA) The General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation affirmed the Organization of Islamic Cooperation’s firm support for the Rohingya people.

In a statement posted on its website marking five years since the start of the massive influx of refugees from Rohingya and other communities from Myanmar’s Rakhine State into Bangladesh, the OIC called on the international community to stand firmly with the Rohingya people in their plight and redouble efforts. To protect their fundamental human rights, including their right to full citizenship, and to ensure conditions conducive to the safe, voluntary, dignified and sustainable return of all refugees and internally displaced persons to their homeland.

The Organization of Islamic Cooperation commended the government and people of Bangladesh for their tireless efforts to provide needed protection, hospitality and assistance to Rohingya refugees living in Bangladesh over the past five years. He also appreciated the international support, including the member states of the Organization of the Islamic Conference, for the cause of these refugees.

The Organization of Islamic Cooperation expressed its hope that the recent ruling of the International Court of Justice, rejecting Myanmar’s initial objections, would contribute to mobilizing the necessary momentum for effective international action that would provide more support to the Rohingya people and contribute to finding a final solution to the Myanmar problem. their permanent affliction.
