No. 2 Ons Jabeur loses to Vondrousova at Australian Open

Melbourne, January 19 (BNA): Second seed Anas Jabeur became the latest player to exit the Australian Open in the second round, as 86th seed Marketa Vondrousova beat him 6-1, 5-7, 6-1.

Jabeur had complained of a knee problem after her opening win at Melbourne Park and appeared to be somewhat triggered by the loss to Vondrousova, which ended shortly after 1am on Friday.

Jabeur, who is from Tunisia, was runner-up at Wimbledon and the US Open in 2022, and came to Australia and was considered a contender for her first Grand Slam title.

She reached the quarter-finals in Melbourne in 2020 but missed the tournament a year ago due to a back injury.

Left-handed Vondrousova reached the final of the French Open as a teenager in 2019, but hasn’t made it past the fourth round in 17 other Grand Slam tournament appearances.
