Berlin, June 17 (BNA): Top seed Daniil Medvedev beat Ilya Ivashka for the second time in a week, beating the Belarusian 7-6 (4) 6-3 on Thursday to reach the quarter-finals of the Halle Open.
Medvedev, who also eliminated Ivashka in last week’s game against Szhertogenbosch, saved three set points when he trailed 5-4 in the first set, the Associated Press said.
Medvedev is back at number one in the rankings this week, with Novak Djokovic slipping back to third, and he admitted that could increase the motivation of his opponents in Halle.
Medvedev will face seventh seed Roberto Bautista Agut, who beat seed Talon Grixpur 6-7 (6), 6-4, 6-2.
8th seed Karen Khachanov and Oscar Otti of Germany also advanced.
Khachanov defeated Laszlo Djeri 7-6 (4) 6-4, while Oti defeated Nikoloz Basilashvili 4-6 6-0 7-6 (3).
