Nissan delays Ariya electric SUV sales again, citing supply chain woes

TOKYO, April 5 (BNA) – Nissan Motor Co. said in a statement late Monday that Nissan Motor Co. is delaying the launch date of the Ariya B6 electric SUV again due to global semiconductor shortages and other supply chain disruptions.

The Ariya, Nissan’s second-only electric vehicle model after the Leaf hatchback, will go on sale on May 12 in Japan. The company recently reported a launch in late March, Reuters reports.

Ariya was originally scheduled to launch in mid-2021, but was postponed due to a chip shortage associated with COVID. Nissan said sales are scheduled to begin in Europe this summer and in the United States in the fall.

A limited edition SUV went on sale in Japan as planned in January.

Nissan pioneered mass-market electric vehicles with the Leaf in 2010.
