Nine women reach second round in parliamentary election

Manama, November 13 (BNA): Out of a total of 74 female candidates in the parliamentary elections, one woman, Zainab Abdul-Omair, ascended her constituency and nine of them advanced to the second round.

The nominees who made it to the second round are Zainab Mohsen Al-Hayki, Jalila Alawi Sayed, Kaltham Al-Hayiki, Iman Hassan Shwaiter, Maryam Hassan Al-Sayegh, Basma Abdel-Karim Mubarak, Hanan Muhammad Ali, Maryam Saleh Al-Din, and Lulwa Ali. Al Rumaihi

This number means that 64 candidates were eliminated from the parliamentary race in the first round.

Since the beginning of the electoral process in Bahrain in 2002, many women have succeeded in winning parliamentary seats.

Among them are Latifa Al-Qayoud, Sawsan Taqwi, the outgoing Speaker of Parliament Fawzia Zainal, Sawsan Kamal, Samia Al-Jowder, Masoumeh Abdul Rahim, Kultham Al-Hayiki, Zainab Abdul-Amir and Fatima Al-Qatari.
