Manama, Jan. 14 (BNA) The National Institution for Human Rights in Bahrain called on international organizations to verify and verify all allegations to avoid repeating misleading information.
The head of the National Institution for Human Rights, Ali Ahmed Al-Derazi, affirmed that the institution continues to cooperate with national and international bodies that work to promote and protect human rights. He added that the Foundation is ready to receive and investigate any concerns raised.
Al-Darazi emphasized that access to health care for all citizens and residents, whether in detention centers by order of the court or within the community, is a protected constitutional right.
He stressed that the quality and level of health care provided to inmates is the same as that provided to all in the public health system. This includes diagnosis, medical treatment, and specialized care, as well as individual nutritional requirements and rehabilitation services.
The head of the National Institution for Human Rights affirmed that Bahrain has put in place internationally recognized effective guarantees to ensure respect for the rights of all prisoners.
He explained that any inmate or his family can raise any concern or complaint with a number of independent monitoring bodies, such as the National Institute for Human Rights, and obtain a full and transparent investigation.
Al-Darazi added that organs such as the Prisoners and Detainees Rights Commission and the Ombudsman conduct periodic inspections of prison conditions, including the provision of health care, and issue public reports and recommendations regarding their results.
Al-Darazi indicated that no person in Bahrain was arrested or detained because of peaceful political activity. Freedom of expression is expressly guaranteed under Article 23 of the Bahraini constitution, which includes the right to freedom of assembly, and it is legal to organize demonstrations and rallies.
The Bahraini Press and Publication Law protects journalists and independent press freedoms, and is not limited to the use of public channels to incite, promote, or glorify violence or hatred. In these circumstances, it is the authorities’ duty to investigate, and if appropriate, to prosecute such incidents.
The head of the National Institution for Human Rights admitted that Bahrain had made great strides in reforming human rights. He stated that Bahrain has made remarkable progress in the field of children’s rights through the Child Restorative Justice Law. Al-Darazi also referred to Bahrain’s successful efforts in combating human trafficking, supporting women’s rights, addressing discrimination and protecting the rights of migrant workers.
In 2014, Bahrain established the National Human Rights Institute based on the principles of the 1993 United Nations General Assembly. This body receives and investigates human rights complaints and reviews all new human rights and related legislation.
