NIHR creates “Child Rights Commissioner” position

Manama, June 20 (BNA): The Chairman of the National Institution for Human Rights, Ali Ahmed Al-Derazi, announced that the Board of Commissioners of the National Institution for Human Rights has approved the position of “Child’s Rights Commissioner”.

The Commissioner for the Rights of the Child works to protect and promote the best interests of the child, and to support the environmental policy of the child, based on the powers granted to the National Human Rights Institution by the Establishment Act, which gives it the right to pursue. and monitoring all human rights issues, including children’s rights.

Al-Derazi explained that the Commissioner for Child Rights will be appointed from among the current members of the Board of Commissioners of the National Institution for Human Rights.

The Child Rights Commissioner must participate in training programs and workshops related to the mechanism for dealing with complaints related to children, and he must be aware of the national legislation regulating children’s rights as well as the relevant international conventions.

The Commissioner for Children’s Rights will also be considered as an independent ambassador for children’s rights.

The Commissioner for Children’s Rights will also ensure that children’s rights, perspectives and concerns are heard, their issues are understood, work to protect and advance their interests, and support children’s environmental policy.

Al-Derazi said that the Commissioner for Children’s Rights should work to establish partnerships with government agencies, civil society institutions, and relevant regional and international non-governmental organizations.

He said that the Commissioner for Children’s Rights investigates any matter related to children’s rights, including the adequacy of complaints and support services for children, follows up on evaluating the impact of children’s rights on new policies and legislation, and conducts research and studies. related to children’s rights.

The President added that the General Secretariat of the National Institution for Human Rights will provide technical and logistical support.

Al-Derazi stressed that this step will contribute to supporting human rights and children’s rights, stressing the importance of raising generations in a way that contributes to the development of society.
