Former Italian prime minister Forlani dies aged 97

Rome, July 7 (BNA): Former Italian Prime Minister Arnaldo Forlani passed away yesterday at the age of 97. His son, Alessandro, announced the death of his father.

Forlani served as Prime Minister from 1980 to 1981, and twice served as Secretary of the Christian Democracy: from 1969 to 1973 and from 1989 to 1992.

Born in Pesaro in 1925, Forlani joined the party at the age of 20 and in 1955. He held several roles in the party before becoming in 1968 a minister for the first time.

Forlani was appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs before his appointment in 1980 as Prime Minister to lead the Italian government.
