Alcaraz wins first match since Wimbledon triumph with singles win at Hopman Cup

France, July 22 (BNA): Top seed Carlos Alcaraz won his first match since winning a dramatic Wimbledon final by defeating Belgium’s David Goffin 4-6, 6-4, 10-8 in the Hopman Cup on Friday.

The Spaniard, who beat 23-times grand slam winner Novak Djokovic in five sets at Wimbledon last Sunday, won three aces in a match where each player dropped serve twice.

The show is taking place at the Nice Lawn Club in the south of France, where mixed teams represent their countries in singles and doubles, the Associated Press (AP) reports.

Later on Friday, Alcaraz was playing doubles alongside Rebecca Massarova against Belgian duo Goffin and Elise Mertens.

Alcaraz is back in action on Saturday when he faces 15th seed Borna Coric of Croatia in singles, then doubles teams against Coric and Donna Vekic.

The deadline is on Sunday.
