Death Toll in Indian Landslide Rises to 26, Dozens More Feared Trapped



New Delhi, July 22 (BNA): The death toll from a landslide in the western Indian state of Maharashtra rose to 26 today, Saturday, according to a disaster relief official, while dozens are still trapped under layers of mud and mud two days after the accident.


The landslide occurred Thursday night in a remote mountain village in Irchalwadi, 60 kilometers (37 miles) from Mumbai, and flattened several houses.

It is estimated that the village was home to at least 225 people, more than 80 of whom managed to escape, according to Reuters.
