Blinken called South Korea to discuss China visit; North Korea warns stronger response

Seoul, June 24 (BNA): US Secretary of State Antony Blinken called a key ally of South Korea to discuss the outcome of his visit to China this month, the South Korean Foreign Ministry said Saturday.

A statement from the ministry said that Blinken told South Korean Foreign Minister Park Jin that he had a sincere, pragmatic and constructive dialogue with the Chinese side, and wanted to explain the results of his visit in as much detail as possible.

According to Reuters, Blinken and Park decided to continue communication regarding relations with China and urge Beijing to play a constructive role in North Korea’s suspension of provocations and denuclearization, the ministry said.

North Korea fired two short-range missiles off its east coast last week, less than an hour after Pyongyang warned of a response to military exercises by South Korean and US forces.

The isolated country is subject to international sanctions over its nuclear weapons programs and ballistic missiles.
