BCCI chairman calls for more cooperation between Arab public and private sectors

Amman, Oct. 19 (BNA): Sameer Abdulla Nass, Union of Arab Chambers President, Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCC) Chairman, has stated that the Arab private sector contributes 75% to the gross domestic product (GDP) of Arab countries, and employs about 75% of Arab workforce.


He stressed the importance of strengthening cooperation and integration between the private sector and Arab governments in advancing joint Arab economic and social action and integration, as well as achieving economic and social development for Arab countries, which will make the two sectors more capable of integrating into the global economy, and more flexible in dealing with international challenges.


Addressing the 20th Arab Business Owners and Investors Conference, held in Amman, Jordan, Nass indicated that the private sector plays a major role in transforming sustainable development goals into a tangible reality in the Arab region, noting that the sector contributes effectively to employing Arab youth and job seekers and increasing Arab intra-trade as well as promoting Arab economies, and facilitating their access to global markets.


Sameer Nass called for developing an Arab strategy for digital transformation and the circular and participatory economy, based on the Fourth Industrial Revolution, aiming to develop the legislative and technological digital infrastructure. He also called for implementing energy connectivity projects among Arab countries, and developing an Arab strategy for renewable energy.


BCCI Chairman underlined the importance of addressing the obstacles facing the transportation sector, by developing land, rail and sea transport, as well as connecting Arab countries’ land, sea and air transport networks, as they are essential arteries for the movement of trade, tourism, investment and employment within the Arab region.
