Mexico beats Jamaica 3-0, advances to CONCACAF Gold Cup final against Panama

LAS VEGAS, July 13 (BNA): Henri Martin scores 80 seconds into the minute, Luis Chavez free-kick 30 minutes and Mexico beat Jamaica Wednesday night 3-0 to reach their 11th CONCACAF Gold Cup final.

Roberto Alvarado added a goal in the third minute of stoppage time in the second half as Mexico advanced to face Panama on Sunday at Inglewood, California. The Associated Press reports that El Tre, led by interim coach Jaime Lozano, is seeking a ninth Gold Cup title.

Martin scored his ninth international goal and third of the tournament, leveling the ball with a touch after a Jesus Gallardo cross and beating Andre Blake from 8 yards. Luis Romo scored 51 seconds into Mexico’s opening game, a 4-0 win over Honduras.

Chávez curled a 25-yard free kick into Blake’s top right corner for his fourth international goal, and third of the tournament. Chávez’s first international goal was a free kick against Saudi Arabia in last year’s World Cup.

Alvarado scored his fifth goal when he scored a pass from Gallardo.

Mexico won the 2019 title and lost the 2021 final in overtime to the United States in Las Vegas.
