Forever Green concludes with 51,000 trees planted

Manama, July 18 (BNA): The National Initiative for Agricultural Development (NIAD) announced the conclusion of the second phase of the national afforestation campaign “Green Forever”.

Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, wife of His Majesty the King and President of Niyad, launched Forever Green, in response to the directives of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, to face climate challenges and reach zero neutrality by 2060. .

The campaign has completed many projects by planting more than 50,814 trees and shrubs, approximately 13,589 square meters and 10,288 linear meters.

The campaign also completed 57 afforestation projects in a short period of time in various municipalities and cities around the Kingdom, in cooperation with the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Agriculture and the Supreme Council for the Environment.

Sheikha Maram bint Isa Al Khalifa, Secretary General of Al Nayed, thanked the government, private institutions and civil society organizations for their support and participation in the second phase of the campaign.

The Secretary-General said that the initiative developed a plan for the second phase in cooperation with four municipalities, which resulted in the afforestation of 32 sites in different cities and municipalities in the Kingdom.

Afforestation projects included parks, walkways, public transport stations, health centers, schools, parking lots, coasts, and streets.

The campaign enjoyed much greater participation, which led to an increase in the project sites to 25 sites within the second phase of the campaign, which reflects the patriotism of private and civil institutions towards society.

Sheikha Maram praised the private institutions for their willingness to contribute to the success of the campaign, which witnessed great interaction through all stages, referring to the efforts of the Ministry and the four municipalities throughout the campaign.

She said that the cost of the second phase of the campaign amounted to 177,686 Bahraini dinars, which were donated by various institutions from the private sector.

Eleven agricultural companies benefited from working on these projects, which led to the development of the Bahraini economy.
