Manama, July 15 (BNA): The Kingdom of Bahrain has always been famous for protecting human rights as an integral part of its history, culture and values.


In a recent statement, His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa affirmed that “the Kingdom of Bahrain will adhere to its great historical heritage, which embodies all human principles and values ​​of justice, truth and love among all.”


The royal positions confirm Bahrain’s long-standing approach to protecting and preserving human rights, as an integral part of its civilized and human history, which has been based on the foundations and values ​​of humanity and justice since ancient times, which made A beacon and meeting place for civilizations and coexistence between different cultures and religions.


The Human Rights and Democracy Report 2022 published by the British Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) on July 13, by removing Bahrain from the list of priority countries for human rights, reflects the international community’s praise for the Kingdom’s outstanding record of respecting and promoting human rights. rights.


Bahrain also maintained its position in addressing and combating the crime of human trafficking, as it achieved first place for the sixth consecutive year in the US Department of State’s report on human trafficking for the year 2023, issued in June, which is the highest annual rate. international classification in this field.


The approach of this kingdom has been consolidated thanks to the relentless efforts of His Majesty the King to preserve and protect human rights, according to a sound vision that made respecting and preserving these rights a fundamental pillar of the comprehensive development process, through many guarantees included in the National Action Charter. The constitution is a comprehensive system of legislation and laws aimed at preserving these rights, guaranteeing equality before the law without distinction or discrimination, and providing means for equality and justice.


In fact, since His Majesty King Hamad assumed the throne, the Kingdom has made great strides in strengthening the foundations of the state’s legal institutions and consolidating human rights, through the establishment of many institutions and bodies that ensured the protection of human rights and guaranteed women’s rights in full. , including the Supreme Council for Women in 2001, the Bahrain Institute for Political Development in 2005, the National Institution for Human Rights in 2009, the Independent Office of the Ombudsman at the Ministry of Interior, the Committee on the Rights of Prisoners and Detainees, and the Special Investigation Unit at the Public Prosecution Office.


The Kingdom has also been keen to ensure the independence of the Office of the Inspector General at the Ministry of Interior, and has enacted many advanced modern laws that reflect respect for rights and freedoms, such as those related to freedom of opinion, expression and belief, in a way that guarantees the rights of national and foreign workers, supports associations and unions, combats human trafficking, and promotes women’s rights. children and persons with disabilities.


Bahrain has also guaranteed all the requirements of a decent life for its citizens, as is evident in the high-quality services provided by the government, led by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, in the areas of infrastructure, education, health care and social care.


The government also provides subsidies and allowances to low-income citizens and those with special needs, while continuing its efforts to drive economic growth further.


The government’s adoption of the National Human Rights Plan (2022-2026), including four basic pillars related to civil, political, economic, social and cultural rights, as well as those in need of priority aid, proves that the Kingdom gives top priority to human beings. rights.


Bahrain has also been keen to ratify and accede to regional and international treaties, charters and agreements concerned with the promotion and protection of human rights, including the Arab Charter on Human Rights, and the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination. ), the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR), the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (ICESCR), the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW), and the Convention against Torture and Other Cruel Treatment. and inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment, the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) and the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD).


Bahrain has launched several national plans and strategies, as part of its efforts to fulfill its commitments related to several sectors. These include the National Strategy for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, the National Childhood Strategy, the National Plan for the Advancement of Bahraini Women, the National Strategy for the Elderly, the National Strategy for Women, and the National Plan for Promoting the Spirit of Bahraini Women. Belonging to the homeland and promoting the values ​​of nationalism (Bahraini) and the government’s strategy 2020.


The international community has recognized the Kingdom’s achievements and its firm commitment to the highest standards in consolidating and protecting human rights. She was elected as a member of the United Nations Human Rights Council for the 2006-2007, 2009-2011 and 2019-2021 sessions. In addition, she was also elected as a member of the Independent Permanent Human Rights Committee of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation during its 49y The session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.
