At least four die in swimming accidents across Germany

Berlin, June 26 (BNA): At least four people died after going swimming in Germany amid warm weather at the weekend, police said Sunday.

A 52-year-old man died in a gravel pit in Bakum, Lower Saxony, on Sunday. The dpa news agency reported that his companion, a 60-year-old woman, was found floating in the water, and was revived by emergency services.

The couple apparently ignored signs that it was forbidden to bathe in the water-filled hole.

A 32-year-old man in Münster, North Rhine-Westphalia, died on Sunday after he went swimming in the Dortmund Ems Canal. Also in the state, an 86-year-old man died after entering the waters of a gravel pit to cool off.

His body was found after the police deployed a drone to search for him.

A 73-year-old woman died in nearby Kerken after she went swimming in Lake Eyler, near the Dutch border.

In Dusseldorf, three young men were swept away in the Rhine on Saturday. No 22-year-old was found in the group.
