Portland, June 28 (BNA) The wreckage of the missing submarine Titan has been returned to land after a deadly implosion during its voyage to the wreck of the Titanic caught the world’s attention last week.
The return of debris to a port in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador is a key part of the investigation into what caused the submarine to explode, killing all five people on board.
Twisted pieces of the 22-foot submarine were unloaded at a Canadian Coast Guard dock Wednesday, according to the Associated Press.
The Horizon Arctic, a Canadian ship, carried a Remotely Operated Vehicle, or ROV, to search the ocean floor near the Titanic wreck for submarine parts.
Pelagic Research Services, a company with offices in Massachusetts and New York that owns the ROV, said Wednesday that it has completed its overseas operations.
