South Korea, US, Japan hold missile defense drills

Seoul, July 16 (BNA): The navies of South Korea, the United States and Japan conducted, today, Sunday, a joint missile defense exercise in the international waters of the East Sea. This exercise was in response to North Korea’s recent launch of an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM).

According to the South Korean Navy, as reported by the South Korean News Agency (Yonhap), the exercises included three destroyers equipped with the Aegis system. South Korean “ROKS Yulgok Yi I”, American USS John Finn, and JS Maya of the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force.

He explained that the exercises were an opportunity to enhance the military response capabilities of the three countries against ballistic missiles and to improve their security cooperation.
