New York, July 19 (BNA): The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Political Affairs, Dr. Shaikh Abdullah bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, met with Lee Junhua, the United Nations Undersecretary-General for Economic and Social Affairs.
They met on the sidelines of the High-Level Political Forum for Sustainable Development 2023, at United Nations Headquarters in New York, to present Bahrain’s second Voluntary National Review (VNR) on progress towards achieving the SDGs.
Dr. Sheikh Abdullah highlighted the role of the United Nations in following up the achievement of sustainable development goals in the world.
He praised the cooperation between the Government of Bahrain and the resident offices of the United Nations, within the framework of the Strategic and Sustainable Cooperation Framework for Development 2021-2024 signed with the government in May 2021.
The agreement covers various areas of cooperation in line with the government’s plan and Bahrain’s Economic Vision 2030.
Junhwa congratulated Bahrain for launching the report on Bahrain’s partnership and contributions with the United Nations in cooperation with the United Nations Development Programme, which reflects Bahrain’s efforts in the field of sustainable development during the period 2015-2022.
He praised Bahrain’s implementation of the new directives during the preparation of its national report, which includes coverage of the most important measures taken by countries to combat the repercussions of the coronavirus pandemic.
