At least 21 killed, dozens injured in heavy rains in Pakistan

Islamabad, June 11 (BNA): At least 21 people were killed after torrential rains and thunderstorms wreaked havoc in northwest Pakistan, officials said Saturday.

About 80 people, including women and children, were injured when roofs and walls collapsed in parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, German news agency dpa reported.

Taimoor Ali, spokesman for the provincial disaster management authority, said deaths and destruction were reported in Karak, Bannu and Laki Marwat districts of the province.

He said the death toll is expected to rise.

Last month, about a dozen people, including women and children, were killed by an avalanche during an unusual summer snowfall.
