Manama, June 29 (BNA): Foreign Minister Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al-Zayani, Chairman of the National Human Rights Committee, praised the constructive cooperation between the legislative and executive branches.


Dr. Al-Zayani affirmed that this cooperation contributed to advancing the developmental and democratic achievements of the Kingdom, consolidating Bahrain’s position as a supporter of human rights and promoting the values ​​of tolerance, peaceful coexistence and human solidarity. In a statement on the occasion of International Parliament Day, the minister expressed his pride in the role of parliamentary diplomacy in promoting security, peace and dialogue. and supporting the sustainable development goals.


He pointed out that this year’s celebration coincides with Bahrain’s success in hosting the meetings of the 146th Parliamentary Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union last March under the auspices of His Majesty the King.


He said that Bahrain’s choice to hold this event reflects international confidence in Bahrain’s capabilities and its diplomatic approach to spreading a culture of peace and cultural dialogue and confronting extremism and hatred. In addition to the increasing international recognition of his achievements in promoting parliamentary work.


The minister appreciated the Manama Declaration issued at the conclusion of the Inter-Parliamentary Union meeting, which affirmed Parliament’s support for the United Nations’ efforts to maintain peace and lead mediation to settle disputes. Joint work to build peaceful and democratic societies. Take effective measures to increase the representation of women and youth and pass laws criminalizing hate and violence; and promoting religious and cultural dialogue.


He referred to the royal proposal aimed at increasing legislative and technical cooperation with the aim of reaching an international agreement to criminalize all forms of hate speech; Preventing the misuse of freedoms, media and digital platforms to spread disrespect for religions, intolerance, extremism and terrorism; And push collective efforts to spread a culture of peace.


Dr. Al-Zayani said that the slogan of the International Day of Women Parliamentarians this year, “Parliamentaries for the Planet Earth,” was an opportunity to highlight the achievements of the two legislative branches in cooperation with the government in passing advanced legislation, plans and plans. Strategies to protect the environment, natural resources and biodiversity and enhance food security.


These include issuing Law 7/2022 on the environment, joining relevant international agreements, and supporting Bahrain’s efforts to achieve zero neutrality by 2060 in the context of its commitment to the four major initiatives on climate change, and its chairmanship of the Executive Committee of the Montreal Protocol. on substances that deplete the ozone layer.


The minister affirmed that the Kingdom of Bahrain is continuing the march of democracy within the framework of the separation of powers and cooperation in clarifying the law and constitutional institutions. exercising parliamentary jurisdiction to uphold human and women’s rights and support youth empowerment; expression of the will of the people – which was manifested through record participation in the last elections; Enhancing the role of parliamentary diplomacy in supporting security, peace and sustainable development; And spreading the values ​​of tolerance and human solidarity in line with the government’s action program and the National Human Rights Plan (2022-2026).
