Kyrgios pulls out of Wimbledon due to wrist injury

LONDON, July 3 (BNA): Nick Kyrgios has withdrawn from Wimbledon the night before the tournament kicks off with a wrist injury, a year after reaching his first Grand Slam final at the All England Club.

The Associated Press (AP) reported that Wimbledon announced its withdrawal Sunday night and Kyrgios wrote about it on social media.

He was seeded 30th in the men’s category and was due to face David Goffin on Monday. Kyrgios will be replaced on the field by a player who lost during the playoffs.

“I am really sad to say I have to withdraw from Wimbledon this year. On my return I had some pain in my wrist during Mallorca. As a precaution I had it checked and it came back showing a torn ligament in my wrist,” Kyrgios posted on social media.

“I’ve tried everything to be able to play and I’m disappointed I didn’t have enough time to manage it before Wimbledon.”
