New Zealand to return to Pakistan for 5 ODI, 5 T20 matches

Islamabad, December 20 (BNA) The Pakistan Cricket Board said today, Monday, that New Zealand will make up for the abandoned Pakistan tour this year by playing 10 white ball matches in April 2023.

New Zealand aborted their limited tour to Pakistan in September due to security concerns shortly before the elimination date of their first one-day international match that was scheduled to take place in Rawalpindi. England followed New Zealand’s decision to also abandon their short tour to Pakistan ahead of the 20th World Cup in October.

The April 2023 New Zealand Tour features five ODI places and five 20s. No dates or venues have been set, according to the Associated Press.

The PCB also said that New Zealand will tour Pakistan in December 2022 to play two Test matches as part of the World Test Championship and will also play three ODI matches which will count towards qualification for the 2023 World Cup in India.

The PCB said New Zealand’s dual tours to Pakistan have been completed following successful negotiations between PCB President Ramiz Raja and his New Zealand cricket counterpart, Martin Sneden.

“I am pleased with the results of our discussions and negotiations, and I thank Martin Sinden and his Board of Directors for their understanding and support,” Raja said.

NZC CEO David White said the chairs of both cricket boards “had very productive and constructive discussions while in Dubai, further strengthening the links between the two institutions”.

Pakistan is now preparing to host Australia, West Indies, England and New Zealand between March 2022 and April 2023 for eight test matches, 14 international matches and 13 matches in the 1920s.

Most international teams have stayed away from Pakistan since an attack by Islamist militants on a Sri Lanka team bus in Lahore in 2009 killed six policemen and two civilians. This forced Pakistani teams to play “home” matches abroad for more than six years.

This month Pakistan swept the West Indies in a three-game T20 series. The three-match ODI series between the same two sides has been postponed to next June due to the coronavirus outbreak in the West Indies team.
