Murray ready for ‘big test’ against Sinner in Stockholm

Stockholm, November 10 (BNA): Andy Murray expected a tough challenge against Italian top seed Yannick Sener in the second round of the Stockholm Open, the former world number one said after winning back-to-back rounds in his opening match on Tuesday.

Murray, who had hip surgeries in 2018 and 2019 and is currently 143rd, defeated qualified Viktor Durasovich 6-1, 7-6 (7) in the ATP 250 event, Reuters reports.

The three-times Grand Slam champion will meet Sener for the first time on Wednesday, as the world number 10 seeks his fifth title this year.

Sener missed qualifying for the season-ending ATP Finals after losing to Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz in the second round of the Paris Masters.

In his on-court interview, Murray said: “Senner has had a great season… He was not very lucky not to make the eighth final (at the ATP Finals) in Turin.”

“I think he’s won four or five tournaments this year and he loves to play indoors on the hard courts. It will be a big test for me and I’m sure he will do well.”

Murray reached the third round at this year’s Wimbledon and was knocked out in the first round at the US Open. He hasn’t won a single title since his 2019 victory in Antwerp.
