Municipalities Minister, UN-Habitat sign MoU

Manama, Feb. 22 (BNA): Minister of Municipal Affairs and Agriculture Wael bin Nasser Al-Mubarak stressed the importance of strengthening cooperation between Arab countries and the United Nations Human Settlements Program (UN-Habitat).

He pointed out that the government, headed by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, attaches special importance to cooperation with United Nations organizations regarding human settlements, in which Bahrain has achieved advanced results.

He was speaking as he and the Executive Director of UN-Habitat, Maimouna Mohamed Sharif, signed a memorandum of understanding between the ministry and UN-Habitat to support the Kingdom’s efforts in sustainable urban development, in partnership with the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).

FAO is a specialized agency of the United Nations that leads international efforts to achieve food security for all.

The minister added that the memorandum of understanding comes within the framework of enhancing fruitful cooperation between the two sides, which contributes to enhancing the urban environment in the Kingdom and achieving sustainable development goals.

Maymoona Mohammed Sharif praised the remarkable progress achieved by Bahrain in the field of urban development, and affirmed her keenness to enhance cooperation with the ministry in various programs and fields to achieve the goals of sustainable development.
