Municipalities Affairs Ministry launches cleaning campaign

Manama, March 22 (BNA): The Ministry of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture, in partnership with the Bahrain Cleaning Society, launched a cleaning campaign for mangrove seedling planting sites, in addition to planting 4,000 sea mangrove seedlings in the area. South Sitra.

The campaign comes as part of an awareness program to preserve the mangrove plant.

The Director of Fisheries, Hussein Makki, stressed the goal of preserving mangroves, which are known for their ability to absorb carbon dioxide equivalent to four to five times that of other trees and represent a vital habitat for crustaceans and other aquatic organisms.

He said that mangroves constitute an important environment for birds of all kinds, and highlighted the efforts made to reduce the effects of climate change by quadruple the number of mangroves, and the goal of non-neutrality by 2060.

Makki stressed the support of community initiatives and society in preserving mangroves, promoting a culture of joint work, and improving the environmental reality.

A member of the Board of Directors of the “Cleaning Bahrain” association praised the distinguished role of the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Agriculture in organizing continuous hygiene and awareness campaigns, in addition to planting mangrove reserves in partnership with various community institutions, in a way that supports raising awareness and community efforts to preserve trees. Cleanup Bahrain board member Manaf Abdullah Al-Haddad confirmed the association’s keenness to enhance community participation in preserving the environment.
