Mourinho handed two-game touchline ban

Rome, Feb. 23 (BNA) A Serie A sports judge said Roma coach Jose Mourinho had suspended two matches on the touchline after he was sent off during his team’s 2-2 draw with Hellas Verona.

Mourinho was sent off in the final stages of Saturday’s match at the Stadio Olimpico to protest referee Luca Barreto, before kicking a ball into the stands, Reuters reported.

The Italian Football Association said Mourinho “made serious allegations” against the referee and entered the field “with threatening behavior and blatantly objected to the referee’s decision”.

Mourinho made a phone gesture toward Pareto, which Italian media reported was referring to his father Pierluigi, who was embroiled in the Italian match-fixing scandal in 2006.

The Portuguese coach, who left the stadium without stopping to perform media duties after the match after his team’s draw, was also fined 20,000 euros ($23 thousand).

Roma occupies eighth place in the Italian league after three consecutive draws. Mourinho will not be at the training site for their trip to Spezia and the home match against Atalanta.
