Morocco to ban arrivals from China over COVID surge

Rabat, Jan. 2 (BNA): The Moroccan Ministry of Foreign Affairs said today, Saturday, that Morocco will impose a ban on arrivals from China, whatever their nationality, as of January 3, to avoid any new wave of coronavirus infections.

Reuters reports that several countries have imposed restrictions on travelers from China due to rising coronavirus cases.

Thousands of tourists visit Morocco from China every year, usually on flights that come across the Gulf.

In a surprising change of policy, China this month began dismantling the world’s most stringent lockdown and extensive testing regime, setting its battered economy on track to fully reopen next year.

But the lifting of restrictions has led to COVID spreading largely unchecked and potentially infecting millions of people every day there, according to some international health experts.
