Milan out of Italian Cup after 1-0 loss to 10-man Torino

Milan, January 12 (BNA): The Italian champions, AC Milan, were eliminated from the Italian Football Championship today, Wednesday, after their surprising 1-0 defeat at home to 10-man Torino after extra time.

Torino will face either Sampdoria or Fiorentina in the quarter-finals, reports the Associated Press.

Torino’s chances of a result at the San Siro appeared to be cut short in the 70th minute when defender Kofi Djedje – who had been booked early – was sent off for a second yellow card.

However, he managed to force extra time and scored the winning goal with six minutes left as Brian Baye counterattacked down the right and crossed for Ndari Adobo to score home.

Milan had the best chances but Torino goalkeeper Vanja Milinkovic-Savic were denied them several times and hit the post in the first half through Charles De Cutilari.

It was Milan’s second surprise result in less than a week after Sunday’s disappointing 2-2 home draw against Roma, when they squandered a two-goal lead late on.
