Messi receives offer from Saudi club Al-Hilal

Buenos Aires, May 4 (BNA): A source close to the captain of the Argentine World Cup-winning team told Reuters on Thursday that Lionel Messi had received an official offer to join the Saudi club Al-Hilal next season.

The source added that the offer submitted by the Saudi club is the only offer that Messi has obtained so far. Argentine media reported that the value of the offer is about $ 400 million annually.

Al-Hilal did not immediately respond to a request for comment outside normal business hours.

According to Reuters, the 35-year-old Messi has also been linked in the media with a return to boyhood club Barcelona, with MLS club Inter Miami described as a possible destination.

French sports daily L’Equipe reported Tuesday that Paris Saint-Germain suspended him at the start of the week after he took an unauthorized trip to Saudi Arabia, adding that Paris Saint-Germain decided not to exercise the option to renew his contract for the third season.

Messi is Saudi Arabia’s ambassador for tourism, and his longtime rival, Cristiano Ronaldo, signed for Saudi Arabia’s Al-Nassr club in December in a deal worth around $220m a year.

A second source close to Messi told Reuters the suspension was imposed after the striker told PSG he would not stay in Paris beyond this season and felt the club lacked a project.

The source added that Paris Saint-Germain did not have any training scheduled for Monday and that the decision to hold a session was taken only after Messi was already in Saudi Arabia.

A source close to Paris Saint-Germain denied this and told Reuters that Messi had traveled without permission from the French club and despite having a training session scheduled for Monday.

The source did not comment on whether Messi had already informed PSG that he intended to leave at the end of the season.
