Mbappe scores twice as PSG beat St Etienne

Paris, February 27 (BNA): Kylian Mbappe’s double led Paris Saint-Germain’s recovery from a goal down to win 3-1 against struggling Saint Etienne on Saturday and consolidated its lead at the top of the French League with 16 points.

French striker Mbappe scored a goal in the first half and then turned to striker Danilo Pereira to head the net at the back post for the third goal, Reuters reported.

Saint-Etienne collected 10 points from its previous four Ligue 1 matches to move from the bottom of the standings to outside the relegation zone. They took the lead in the 16th minute through Denis Bouanga and held until three minutes before the break when Lionel Messi set Mbappe to equalize.

The same group gave PSG the lead two minutes into the second half and five minutes later Danilo Pereira doubled the lead.

Earlier on Saturday, Nice moved up to second after a 0-0 draw with fifth-placed Racing Strasbourg.

Nice has 46 points out of Paris Saint-Germain’s quick balance of 62 after 26 games.

Olympique de Marseille, third on goal difference, could reclaim second place in the standings if they avoid defeat at Troyes on Sunday.
