Maybe I’m not so good: Conte questions future at Tottenham

Burnley, England Feb 24 (BNA): Antonio Conte questioned his future as Tottenham coach after seeing his team lose 1-0 to relegation-threatened Burnley on Wednesday to lose their fourth game in their last five Premier League games.

Conte said he would speak to the club’s hierarchy to see if he was the right man to lead Spurs forward.

Conte said: “I’m very open to accepting this kind of situation, and for sure we will make an assessment with the club.

“Because it’s not right, it’s not good for everyone to keep losing. I can’t accept this.”

Optimism from Saturday’s stunning 3-2 win over first-placed Manchester City was punctured at the wet and windy Turf Moor Stadium, against a Burnley side who started the game in penultimate position, The Associated Press reported.

It made Conte question his ability as a coach after 3 and a half months working at Tottenham.

“For the first time in my life, four defeats in five. Perhaps I am not very good,” Conte said. “Tottenham called me to improve the situation. But I’m very honest to close my eyes and keep saying, ‘Okay, but I want to finish my season this way (and) my salary is good. No, I am not that kind of person. I have ambition.”

Tottenham are eighth, seven points behind the top four, but with two games in hand against fourth-placed Manchester United.

“In the last five games, we’re playing as if we’re in (problem) relegation – that’s the truth,” Conte said.

“Maybe there is something wrong, I want to take responsibility. If I have it, I am open to every decision. I want to help Tottenham from the first day I arrived. Also to take my salary, it is not right at the moment.”
