Marseille beats Angers 3-0 to lead French league

Angers, October 1 (BNA): Jonathan Klaus scored a goal and made Marseille Marseille lead the French Ligue 1 by beating Angers 3-0.

Marseille remained undefeated to edge Paris Saint-Germain by a point, but the defending champions could reclaim the top spot when they host Nice on Saturday, the Associated Press reported.

Kloss turned right-back Jan Valery to Angers to hit an angled ball from the near post in the 35th minute. Then the France international intercepted a pass from Valery in the 50th minute to feed Luis Suarez, who doubled the score by defeating goalkeeper Yahya Fofana.

Marseille midfielder Gerson made it 3-0 by controlling a cross from Klaus in the 59th minute to turn into the bottom corner.

“The team lives well together. We all hold on to each other,” said Marseille midfielder Jordan Veritot, explaining Marseille’s strong start to the season. “All the players are very important, whether it is the 11 who started or the bench. We are a team that shows our solidarity, and that’s what makes us strong this season.”

Marseille rested striker Alexis Sanchez, who was on the bench after playing two full games for Chile during the international break.

Angers created his first chances by pressing high on the pitch but lacked the finishing touch. Nabil Bentaleb intercepted a pass from Marseille midfielder Jordan Veritot before he shook the post in the 18th minute. Left back Angeh Slimane Doumbia was sent off Issa Kabore in the 34th minute to return the ball to Adrien Hono, who fired his shot wide.
