Marseille beats 10-man Sporting after goalkeeper errors

Paris, Oct 4 (BNA): Marseille recovered from a first-minute delay to beat Sporting Lisbon 4-1 on Tuesday in the Champions League, thanks in part to visiting goalkeeper Antonio Adan making two costly mistakes before being sent off.

After not scoring in two opening losses in Group D, Marseille ended Sporting’s perfect record with goals from Alexis Sanchez, Amin Harriet, Leonardo Valverde and Chancel Mbemba, reports the Associated Press.

Adan had a night to forget, as Sanchez gifted Sanchez the equalizer after slowing down on the ball, making another foul for the second and then receiving a red card in the 23rd minute after touching the ball outside his area.

The start of the match was postponed for more than 20 minutes after the bus carrying the visiting team players was hit by traffic and arrived late at the Velodrome stadium.

UEFA had set the 15-minute delay, and while the Marseille players were waiting in the tunnel, coach Igor Theodore looked angry and complained to the match officials that their opponents were late to get out of the dressing room.
