Manchester United back in Champions League with 4-1 rout of Chelsea

London, May 26 (BNA): Manchester United will return to action in the Champions League next season, after crushing Chelsea 4-1 and 4-1 on Thursday to secure fourth place in the English Premier League.

Casemiro, Anthony Martial, Bruno Fernandes (penalty) and Marcus Rashford scored for United, who needed a point from their last two league games to officially end Liverpool’s fading hopes of a place in Europe’s premier club competition.

United, the three-time European champion, who failed to qualify for the Champions League last season, ranks third with 72 points, with one match remaining, six points behind fifth-placed Liverpool, according to Reuters.

Fourth-placed Newcastle secured a place among Europe’s elite after a goalless draw with Leicester on Monday. Chelsea, who have struggled all season, are in 12th place with 43 points.

United, who culminated their Premier League season on Sunday by hosting tenth-placed Fulham, won the Carabao Cup in February, and aim to complete a domestic double when they face rivals Manchester City in the FA Cup final on June 3.
