Liz Truss resigns as UK’s prime minister

London, October 20 (BNA) Liz Truss said, today, Thursday, that she will resign from her position as Prime Minister, due to her economic program that caused shock in the markets and caused the division of her Conservative Party just six weeks after her appointment.

Reuters reported that the leadership elections will end within the next week.

Speaking outside her office door 10 in Downing Street, Truss accepted that she could not keep the promises she made when she was running for Tory leader, having lost her party’s faith.

“I realize though, given the situation, I cannot carry out the mandate that I have been elected by the Conservative Party. So I spoke to His Majesty to inform him that I am resigning as the Conservative Party chairman,” she said. .

“This morning I met the Chairman of the 1922 Committee, Sir Graham Brady. We have agreed that there will be a leadership election to be completed within the next week. This will ensure that we remain on track to present our financial plans and maintain our country’s economic stability and national security.”
