Liverpool make Arsenal postponement request due to COVID-19 cases

Liverpool, January 5 (BNA): Liverpool club asked the English Football League to reschedule the first leg of the League Cup semi-final against Arsenal today, Thursday, due to the high number of coronavirus cases in the club. The English Premier League team said.

Liverpool canceled their first team training session on Tuesday.

The club said in a statement: “The Reds have officially asked the Premier League to reschedule the match after recording more suspected positive tests among players and staff, allied with other factors affecting the selection, including illness and injury.”

“Among the considerations that led to today’s application to the EFL was the need to give travel proponents as much notice as possible of any potential postponement.”

Coach Jurgen Klopp, along with goalkeeper Alisson Becker, striker Roberto Firmino and defender Joel Matip, were ruled out of the 2-2 draw against Chelsea at the weekend after tests came back positive, Reuters reported.

Virgil van Dijk, Thiago Alcantara, Fabinho and Curtis Jones were also forced into isolation last month.
