Lewandowski can’t stop scoring for Barça before Bayern trip

Madrid, September 10 (BNA): Robert Lewandowski came off the bench to help Barcelona beat Cadiz 4-0 in La Liga on Saturday as the Polish striker continued his impressive scoring run before facing the former Bayern Munich club.

Play was paused for more than half an hour as Red Cross medics showed up for a fan with a medical emergency in the stands, according to the Associated Press.

The man, who appears to have a heart problem, was eventually removed on a stretcher before the match resumed in the final eight minutes.

Lewandowski scored his ninth goal in five matches to double Barcelona’s lead after Frenkie de Jong’s opening goal in the 55th minute.

He has only failed to score in one game – his first appearance – since joining Barcelona from Bayern this summer.

After play was stopped for the bad fan, Lewandowski assisted Ansu Fati before Ousmane Dembele’s shot from distance turned it into a defeat.

His fourth consecutive victory in the Spanish League lifted Barcelona to the top of the standings, one point behind Real Madrid, before hosting defending champion Mallorca on Sunday.

Coach Xavi Hernandez has left Lewandowski, Dembele and Pedri Gonzalez out of the starting line-up ahead of Tuesday’s trip to Germany in the Champions League. All three came in moments after De Jong’s goal.

Both Xavi and his Cadiz counterpart, Sergio Gonzalez, wished the stricken fans a speedy recovery, and agreed that the incident, which silenced the Nuevo Mirandela stadium in southern Spain, was a reminder that football is just a game.

“Health, again, is the most important thing,” Chaffee said. “We hope he gets better as soon as possible.”
