Leipzig trio, another Stuttgart player test positive for coronavirus

Berlin, Jan. 3 (BNA): The Corona virus continued to hit the Bundesliga clubs, today, Monday, as RB Leipzig said that three players had tested positive for the virus and three other inconclusive tests had returned.

Meanwhile, VFB Stuttgart reported a fifth case in its ranks less than a week before the league resumed after a short winter break, reports the German news agency (dpa).

Leipzig said that the results of the tests carried out on Andre Silva and Christopher Nkunko were positive while they were in their countries, Portugal and France, respectively, but that they are expected to return to Leipzig from their isolation periods before the end of the week.

The third is young Solomon Bona, who is part of the first team.

Nordi Mukele, Benjamin Henrichs and Dani Olmo have also been isolated after tests conducted on Sunday were inconclusive. They were tested again on Monday, and the results have yet to be announced.

Leipzig’s first game after a short winter break on Saturday was against Mainz and goalkeeper Peter Gulassi said infection was not an excuse if the team did not win.

Stuttgart said striker Wahid Feger has joined Silas Katoomba Mfumba, Nawiro Ahamada, Konstantinos Mavrobanos and Mateo Klimovic, as they contracted the SARS-CoV-2 virus ahead of Saturday’s game on bottom club Greether Fuerth.

Meanwhile, champions and leaders Bayern Munich await a round of test results before their first training later on Monday, after four players led by Germany goalkeeper Manuel Neuer were eliminated due to Sars-Cove 2 injuries.

While it appears that all weekend matches that start with Bayern Munich’s match against Borussia Monchengladbach on Friday will go ahead as planned, Wolfsburg managing director Jörg Schmadtke does not want to rule out the possibility of canceling future matches, as is the case in the Premier League and other sporting leagues.
