London, Feb. 18 (BNA): With Arsenal’s title streak underway, new signing Jorginho has made a huge splash with Arsenal, reports the Associated Press.
Jorginho’s shot from outside the area in second half stoppage time bounced off the bar and blocked Villa keeper Emiliano Martinez before slotting into the net to put Arsenal well ahead in a 4-2 win on Saturday that blocked three goals. A winless streak in the Premier League.
Arsenal were forced to scramble from behind twice before a lucky rebound from Jorginho’s shot made it 3-2 in the third minute of stoppage time.
Gabriel Martinelli then scored the fourth goal into an empty net from a quick counter-kick after Martinez – the former Arsenal goalkeeper – had stepped forward as Villa looked for an equaliser.
The win put Arsenal three points above Manchester City ahead of the champions’ game against Nottingham Forest later on Saturday.
It also halted a worrying decline for Mikel Arteta’s side, who looked in danger of suffering a fourth loss in five matches in all competitions.
Villa took the lead in the fifth minute only through Ollie Watkins, after Oleksandr Zinchenko had given the ball away cheaply. Bukayo Saka equalized with a great shot in the 16th minute, but Villa regained the lead in the 31st minute through Philippe Coutinho.
Zinchenko then scored his first Arsenal goal with a shot from just outside the area in the 61st minute to equalize for the second time, then all the crucial rebounds went the way of the visitors as Villa’s Leon Bailey hit the crossbar with a late chance before Jorginho – a former Chelsea midfielder who joined Arsenal in January – was more fortunate at the other end.
