Labour Minister receives US delegation

Manama, Feb. 27 (BNA): Minister of Labor and Chairman of the Labor Market Regulatory Authority, Jamil bin Muhammad Ali Humaidan, met with a delegation from the US government headed by Director of the Office of Trade and Labor Affairs Matthew Levine.

US Ambassador to Bahrain Stephen Bondy was present.

The meeting discussed the historical Bahraini-American relations and means of enhancing them, especially labor cooperation.

The minister reviewed the initiatives and policies pursued by the Kingdom to sustain the growth and stability of the labor market, promote workers’ rights, keep unemployment rates within their natural limits, and attract more investment opportunities that generate job opportunities.

The delegation was briefed on Bahrain’s efforts to develop national labor systems and legislation in line with international labor standards, implement the decision to ban discrimination at work on the basis of sex or religion, and apply the system to protect workers’ wages, in addition to the freedom of expatriate workers.

Humaidan pointed out that Bahrain maintained its leading position in the US State Department’s report on the classification of countries in the field of combating human trafficking for the fifth year in a row.

He affirmed the government’s continued interest in curbing this global phenomenon by launching the first regional center to combat human trafficking.

The American delegation praised the initiatives and policies implemented by the Kingdom and affirmed that Bahrain is a strategic partner of the United States.
