Kremlin’s party gets 324 of 450 seats in Russian parliament

Moscow, September 21 (BNA): The Russian electoral authorities announced, on Tuesday, that the ruling party in Russia will get 324 out of 450 seats in the next national parliament.

An Associated Press report said today that the number is lower than the pro-Kremlin’s United Russia party, which won the previous election, but it remains with an overwhelming majority.

Maintaining party dominance in the State Duma was seen as crucial to the Kremlin ahead of the Russian presidential elections in 2024.

The results gave United Russia 49.8% of the vote over the 225 seats distributed by parties. Another 225 lawmakers are chosen directly by voters, and United Russia candidates won 198 of those races.

On Tuesday, Russia’s Central Election Commission said those victories would translate to 324 seats for the party, which is 19 down from 2016, but still enough to make changes to the Russian constitution.

The Communist Party, the second largest political force in parliament, will get 57 seats – an improvement from 42 seats five years ago.
