New York, Nov. 24 (BUS): Evan Fournier scored 26 points, Emmanuel Quikley scored 12 out of 14 in the fourth quarter after New York edged out the lead by 25 points, and the Knicks beat the lost Los Angeles Lakers. LeBron James 106-100 Tuesday night.
Julius Randle added 20 points, 16 rebounds and five assists for the Knicks, but sat for eight minutes of the fourth quarter after making his fifth foul. Quickley made sure that didn’t matter, hitting four triple-digits in the period, the AP reports.
Russell Westbrook scored 31 points, 13 rebounds and 10 assists, with 18 points in an exciting third quarter that allowed the Lakers to draw. But with James not in the ring, Anthony Davis suffering from illness and Carmelo Anthony’s shot at his old home, the Lakers couldn’t take the lead.
They beat Detroit on Sunday after overcoming a 17-point delay in the game in which James was sent off for hitting the Pistons’ Isaiah Stewart in the face and drawing blood. The National Basketball Association suspended the attacking star for one game.
But the best Los Angeles could do in this match was to draw twice after New York dominated most of the first two quarters.
Davis, who woke up with a fever, scored 20 points in a 7-for-17 shootout. Anthony was only 3 of 14 to 12, and the Lakers lost for the fourth time in five games.
Randle went to the bench with his fifth foul with 9:18 remaining and a technical foul from there allowed the Lakers to cut the ball to 90-87. But Obi Toppin scored before Quickley made a three-pointer to push him back to eight, and returned to a double when he made another 3 by Quickley 105-93 with 4:58 to play.
The Knicks had a 10-0 lead that grew to 36-15 on the RJ Barrett 3 Index with a 1:11 left in the first quarter. It was 59-35 with less than 5 minutes left in the half before the Lakers scored 16-2, reducing it to 61-51 just before the break.
The Lakers scored nine goals in a row to open the third and reduced the score to 63-60, finally tying for the first time in 79 against Dunk Anthony.

Lakers: Anthony got a standing ovation when he checked in during the first quarter. … Tallinn Horton Tucker missed all eight of his shots in a goal-free outing.
Knicks: New York played without reserve guard Derek Rose (a sprained right ankle) and injured Mitchell Robinson and Taj Gibson. Coach Tom Tebodeau said Robinson, who suffered a concussion, is in better shape but still has to clear league protocols before he can return. … New York have won nine of their last 11 home matches.

Lakers coach Frank Vogel described James as one of the finest players in the league who always plays the game the right way. Talk to James, who was disappointed that he did not visit one of his favorite arenas in a row for his second consecutive year. He was injured last season when the Lakers played at Madison Square Garden.
“He wanted to play. I don’t want to get into it any further,” Vogel said.
