Klopp sure Salah will stay, have longevity of Messi, Ronaldo

London, January 12 (BNA): Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp expected that Mohamed Salah would sign a new contract with the club and have the same duration in his career as Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Salah, who has 18 months left on his current deal, has held talks with Liverpool about an extension but has yet to receive what he sees as an acceptable offer.

He said in a recent interview with GQ magazine that he doesn’t ask for “crazy things” and wants to be appreciated for everything he’s done for the club, according to the Associated Press.

Klopp said he was “very positive” about retaining the Premier League top scorer title and that there was nothing unexpected about the length of the current negotiations.

“I know Mo wants to stay. We want Mo to stay,” Klopp said Wednesday. “Those things take time. I can’t change it, sorry. I think everything is in a good place.”

The 29-year-old claims to be the best player in the world this season, scoring more goals (16) and assisting (9) than any other player in the Premier League.

The Egyptian winger, who is currently outside the scope of the international mission at the Africa Cup of Nations, has either won outright or shared the Golden Boot – the league’s top scorer award – in two of his first four seasons at Liverpool and is on his way to winning it again.

He is also known to work hard on his fitness, all of which leads Klopp to believe that Salah can thrive into his mid-30s like Messi and Ronaldo.

“His personality, his determination, the way he trains, the rate of work,” Klopp said. “His attitude is incredible – first, last. He does all the right things.

“He knows his body, he knows what he’s doing. He tries to get better all the time. He works really hard for the situation he’s in right now. I’m as satisfied as I can be.”
